Workshop Description
This workshop is full. Instructor: Karen Giacopuzzi Instruction and Materials: $230 Note: This camp runs from 9am -3:30 pm on March 31 and April 21. Turn your hoodie into a light up work of art. In this 13 hour workshop you’ll sew electroluminescent wire on to your hoodie with clear filament. You’ll heat press your own original vinyl cut design and will add up to five LEDS that you’ll sew on and control with a tiny microcontroller. This workshop is tons of fun and includes skills in a variety areas. You’ll learn to sew using a whip stitch and master the important skill of tying on and off thread to a needle. You’ll use Turtle Art, a block coding tool, to create or own original design and will learn to use the vinyl cutter and heat press. Then you’ll get an introduction to physical computing when you write (typed) C++ Code to make your sewn LEDS flash, fade or simply stay on. You’ll provide your own zip up hoodie with pockets. If you don’t have one, I’ll help you find one on Amazon. Walmart also has a decent selection or better yet, buy one from a thrift store or ask around for one. Everyone loves to recycle and that includes clothing. Ages 11-15 Screentime Rating: 25% Tech Resume Skills: Sewing, Block and (Very Simple) Typed Coding , Vinyl Cutting and Pressing, Sewn Circuits. Reuse: Depends on the hoodie's origins.
