Engineering with Rustom Meyer

Workshop Description

Instruction: $265 Materials: $20 Total: $285 This is a new workshop at Gadget Lab and aims to offer a more advanced learning option for our more experienced students. This workshop will use the Arduino Engineering Kit that includes a subscription to MatLab and SimuLink. Students will work with engineer Rustom Meyer to build three projects, which are described here: https://www.arduino.cc/education/engineering-kit/. This camp description comes with a story... I bought the Arduino Engineering and Physics kits with the intention to muddle though them on repeat until I learned it well enough to teach it - which is how I (a Liberal Arts major) developed Gadget Lab in the first place. Then I thought it would be a shame to muddle through it on my own - so I decided to create small group workshops around it. This is the first iteration and having Rustom take the role as Lead Muddler seemed like a good idea. He has a Masters in Environmental Engineering from Cornell and has a much stronger grasp of mechanical principles than I do. I'll be sitting in and we'll have three students, which is the number recommended by makers of the Arduino kit. The licenses to MatLab and SimuLink are good for one year so I'm hoping to repeat the workshops for at least that long. I'll follow a similar path with the Physics Kit. I can't guarantee you'll understand everything we cover but don't let that stop you. You learn complexity through repetition and this will be your first run through some of these topics. I also can't guarantee complete success with the projects but I intend to have fun trying. If you're up for it - this this is the workshop for you. And if it's full - no worries. I intend to do more.
