Workshop Description

For ages 11 and up - for kids who have soldered* Cost: $100 Monday, February 19 9:30 am - 4:45 pm If I call you a Nerd, it's a compliment. This school day off workshop covers the requirements to call yourself a proud, card carrying Nerd. We'll cover binary numbers, hexadecimal numbers and will learn about the ubiquitous 555 timer chip. About a billion 555 timer ICs are built every year and they are in many appliances and electronic devices. We'll be using two stuck together (the 556 IC) to make an Atari Punk Console. It's a small synthesizer that makes sounds like an early Atari game. You can change the pitch and volume. It's very cool. Don't be scared off by the looks of the circuit. It's not that hard but is lots of fun to make and use. *We offer learn to solder workshops. If there isn't one available, email Karen@GadgetLab.org and we'll set one up.
