Workshop Description

Note: This is a four hour/day (20 hour) camp because last summer the kids said the 15 hour format was too rushed. Instructors: Elliot and Caleb Instruction: $340 Materials: $20 Total Cost: $360 Use MakeCode Arcade to make your own original retro arcade style games (like Mario Bros. and Zelda!).  You can make platform games, maze games, chaser games and more.  You can create your own backgrounds and characters using the Pixel Art tool or choose from a pre-made gallery. ​ We'll use block coding but will switch the view to JavaScript to see how our games look in typed code.  ​ That's not all!  You'll also make a handheld game controller using a cigar box and a miniature computer called a Raspberry Pi.  You can keep it indefinitely or sell back the Raspberry Pi when you're done as part of our new Gadget Lab Recycling program. ​ ​ Ages:10-15 Screentime rating:  60% Tech Resume Skills: Game design concepts. Coding tools such as conditional statements, recursive loops. Intro to 3D printing. Reuse: Cigar Box and Early Model Raspberry Pi Micro Computers.

Gadget Lab is a small business and we cannot offer refunds. If you need to cancel we'll do our best to find another student to fill the slot. If we can find a replacement we'll send a full or pro-rated refund minus a $35 cancellation fee.
